Longboard Skateboard

Longboard skateboards are larger and wider in shape and have better concavity than other standard skateboards. Longboard skateboards come in different shapes to suit different styles of skateboarding. Their greater weight and bulk makes them less suitable for many skateboarding tricks, but contributes to a fluid motion by providing more momentum.

The trucks are an important part of the skateboard and need to be of high quality and light weight, so that the rider can enjoy his or her ride. The board turns in the direction in which the rider leans, and the bushings inside the trucks are responsible to bring the trucks back into a straight position Not only do the best longboard skateboard provide you with torsion trucks that operate differently and more efficiently than regular trucks, but the longboard also has torsion trucks to make the turns easier.

The wheels of longboards are also a vital factor in deciding as to which longboard would prove to be the best longboard skateboard. Mostly longboard skateboards have larger wheels that have to spin slower to maintain the speed than compared to smaller wheels Select the best longboard skateboard with large and soft wheels if it suits your skateboarding style, otherwise you can go in for longboards with large and hard wheels that prove to be the best longboard skateboards for vert skating.

The bearings of longboard skateboards also need to be considered when selecting the best longboard skateboard, as this is the part of the skateboard that decides the efficiency of wheels. Longboard skateboard can have bearings either made of steel or of ceramic which may cost more, but has many advantages like light weight, resistant to rust, durable and creates less friction when skateboarding.

Types of Longboard Skateboarding

There are a few basic categories of longboarding:

Carving - This is the discipline that appeals most to the surfing/snowboarding set. The rider strings together front side and backside turns, pushing the board hard into the ground while leaning into and accelerating out of each turn. Done well, carving is graceful and athletic. It doesn't take much of a hill; in fact it can be done at relatively slow speeds, reducing the risk to the rider's life and limb.

Downhill - The rider takes the straightest line possible down the (usually steep) hill. This is a specialized category, and not for the faint of heart. Speeds can often be in the forties and wipe-outs are common, necessitating lots of protective gear and full-face helmets. Obviously, not for beginners or those averse to hospital visits. Downhill boards are flat and have long wheel bases for stability.

Skatepark - Some riders prefer to ride a longboard, generally in the 39-46 inch range, in skate parks. A specialized group of performance pool- and park-skaters prefers the longboard's width and wheels for their extra grip at speed.

Cruising and Commuting - Especially in beach towns and on college campuses, the longboard is the transport of choice for many. Any longboard works well for this purpose, though there is a shorter class of board that is often called a commuter. Some riders make their own by putting longboard wheels on a shortboard.
