Skateboarding is a very popular sport that has been
increasing in popularity since the early 1980s. The skateboard
industry has seen a huge increase worldwide making it a
recognizable sport as well as a career for those boarders
that become experts in their sport.
How to Ride a SkateBoard
Learning to ride a skateboard is not as easy as it sounds. It takes balance and alertness.
Here are the basic steps on how to ride a skateboard that will help you enjoy this popular sport.
- Go to a skateboard store and talk to the salesperson.
Ask them to help you select a good quality skateboard designed for beginners
- First of all you need to be able to balance a little.
You should always wear safety gear. Center your feet just behind
the trunks of the skateboard. Your foot should be near the very back
and that your legs are spread apart. This picture shows the correct
front foot position. It also shows the stuff you will need. It is the correct position for when you are about to do a trick.
- Always have your dominant foot on the front. Then
you will have your other foot on the back and push off with that foot.
You will need to figure out if your stance is regular, or goofy.
Then there is a position where you stand normal but when you push you push with your front foot. That is called mongo.
- Now you are almost done you will just need to practice a lot.
Try all these things out, and hopefully after a while you will learn
how to skate, or become a better skater.
How to stop a SkateBoard
Knowing how to stop a skateboard helps you avoid running into another boarder an
object and helps to prevent you from being injured. Learning to stop the skateboard
will become second nature to you with practice.
- Roll the skateboard for about ten to fifteen feet or
further depending on your level of comfort rolling the skateboard.
- Shift your weight on the skateboard backward pushing your foot down
on the back of the skateboard at the tail or just behind the wheels.
- Scrape the tail gently on the ground to slow the skateboard. Use the
board to create friction that will slow the board on the pavement.
- As you slow down keep your balance on the skateboard. At first this position
will be uncomfortable causing you to fall or slip off the skateboard. After a
few times you will get the feel of how to stop the skateboard.
- With the pressure of the tail of the skateboard on the ground you will
come to a complete stop. When you push the tail of the skateboard down it
will drag the skateboard to a stop
